Best New Digital Camera

[I would like some help in deciding which of the new cameras reviewed in February to purchase. some of the features I am looking for are in camers battery charging, face detection, smile detection, good close up and distance ability and whatever else is important. I don’t know a lot about cameras and need something uncomplicated but will do a lot of the work for me. Thanks for the help you have been in the past.

What are the best printers to print photos? Anyone have any recommendations? I would use the printer for basic printing needs, but really want to print photos at home so I don’t have to run out to a drug store for a few prints.

I have boxes and boxes of my dad’s slides, is there anything out on the market that can be purchased to convert/transfer? He took amazing photos of our family,from his trips abroad, nature scenes and experimental lens testing shots. I would love to preserve those memories for the rest me and my siblings. What is your recommendation?

Suggestions for replacing a Nikon Coolpix 4200

Lisa had asked about replacing her outdated Nikon Coolpix 4200 in response to “Nikon Coolpix S1000pj Camera has Built-in Projector.” She wanted a model that would have “a decent lens, negligible delay and a viewfinder” and was wondering if $300 would get her anywhere.

It’s actually hard to find point-and-shoots with optical viewfinders these days. Most appear in high-end models. Nikon, for instance, only has an optical viewfinder available on its top two models, the Coolpix P6000 and P90. Both are good cameras, but come in over $300.

Canon is the only one that really has a selection

Canon PowerShot SD780 IS ($250)
Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS ($200)
Canon PowerShot A1000IS ($150, which we still recommend because we feel its image quality is better than the replacement model, the A1100IS)

I’d go with one of these Canon models and it wouldn’t hurt to check out “6 Ways to Speed up a Slow Camera.” The tips are applicable to any camera.

I’m an amateur photographer looking to get away from the point and shoot cameras. Currently I am torn between the Canon Rebel XSi and the T1i. Landscape photography is my favorite, and I am about to set out west on a road trip. Obviously I will be taking hundreds of photographs and I am extremely excited…and slightly in over my head! Could anyone give me some advice on the essentials I should be packing with me, there are so many lenses and filters that I just cannot make any decisions. any suggestions are much appreciated!

Canon camera update

Hi.
I’m looking to replace my five year old Canon PowerShot S400 Digital Elph 4 mega pixal camera with 3x zoom. What camera is comparable/successor model to this one? There are no more S’s - but lots of SF, SD, etc. Which Canon camera would you recommend to replace this one?

I really love my current camera and have been very happy with the size, ease of use and picture quality of my Canon. The only thing I’d change is a faster shutter speed, so that there is not so much time between when I push the button and when the camera takes the picture.

The three most important features for me: fit in my pants pocket (be durable because it’s in and out of my pocket a lot), great picture quality, and simple to use. I’m not very technical and tend to point and shoot without fiddling much with settings. Most of my photos are of my children, family and landscapes. I shoot equally indoors and outside in all kinds of weather. I’m looking for something under $400.00.

I’ve been using Shutterfly for some time and I’ve always gotten good quality prints. They have a lot of specials, so oftentimes they’re a good deal to (12 or 15 cents a print), but I’ve never compared the quality to other services. What is your experience?

Camcorder Upgrade

I’m finally ready to upgrade my camcorder and I would like your opinion. I’m looking at the Sony HDR-XR500V is it worth the price tag of $1300.00? I wanted one of their other models with the built in 10 mega-pixel camera option but they seem to discontinued.
