A lot is written about comparing the various applications available for these phones, however there is very little information about comparing the actual PHONE feature. While I need and utilize e-mail and web apps, ultimately, as someone who engages in many lengthy business calls on my mobile phone, I am very concerned with background noise minimization, speaker phone clarity and volume, fewest possible dropped calls, etc. Do you have any insight?

CNET evaluates call quality in their reviews. But keep in mind that call quality is heavily impacted by the carrier and the quality of the network in your area. You’ll see that CNET mentions the city where the review was conducted. I’ve pull the relevant info below, but if you want a more detailed report, look for the section called “Call quality and reception” or “Performance.”

BlackBerry Storm (Sprint)
They report good call quality, no dropped calls during testing, but mediocre speaker phone clarity.

BlackBerry Bold 9000 series (AT&T)
They report good call quality, no dropped calls and decent speaker phone clarity

Apple iPhone 3G S (AT&T)
They report good call quality but some background noise, poor call connection, speaker phone clarity is good
