Last Minute Valentine's Day Gifts

Holy cow! It’s Valentine’s Day and you haven’t bought your gift yet! Fortunately, I’ve got your back. You can still put together a personal gift that looks like you put some thought into it.

Here are my recommendations:

Collage photo frame

No cropping, cutting or laying out necessary to fit multiple photos into one frame. With Kodak’s Pynk collage photo frames, you save the photos you want to put into the frame onto a memory card or USB thumb drive, go to a store with a Pynk kiosk (many CVS stores have them) and pick out the Pynk frame you want to use. The kiosk will create a print that fits your frame, automatically cropping, re-sizing and arranging your photos to fit the openings in your Pynk frame. An 8-by-10-inch frame costs $14.99, plus $6.99 for the print.

A personal music station

If you know your valentine’s taste in music, it’s easy to set up a custom radio station on Pandora based on their favorite musicians. The free music streaming service then pulls a wide variety of songs into the custom station, often from artists they never have encountered before. Add a one-year subscription to Pandora One ($36 per year) which kills the ads, provides unlimited listening and provides a higher quality audio stream.

Personalized gift card to their favorite store

Send your valentine on a shopping spree at their favorite store with SWAGG. You pick a store from the list, which includes Steve Madden, Crocs, American Apparel, Omaha Steaks and Wet Seal, the amount you want to give, and then add a personal note. They receive an electronic gift card that can be used online or on their iPhone. Purchasing gift cards is only available through the SWAGG iPhone app.

Personal coupons

In every relationship there are going to be compromises and favors, whether that’s picking the movie on date night or giving a massage. So give your partner a free pass with a personalized set of coupons. To get you started, American Greetings has three sets of coupons available in its Create & Print service—romantic, naughty and regular. Use the suggested wording or customize with your own. To print on your home printer, you must join americangreetings.com for $3.99 per month or $19.99 for the year.

Your song, your movie, your app

If the two of you have a favorite song, movie, TV show or app, you can send it to your Valentine as a gift through the iTunes store. Simply find it on iTunes and instead of buying it outright, you select "Gift this…" That will take you to a screen that lets you send a personal note along with the gift code. You can choose to e-mail your gift or print it out. You can only gift one item at a time, though.

A valentine cockroach

Looking for a great last-minute gift that also supports a good cause? Name a Madagascar hissing cockroach for your valentine at the Bronx Zoo, and he or she will get a personalized e-card on Valentine's Day with a certificate letting them know that a cockroach has been named in their honor. A $10 donation is required, which helps the Wildlife Conservation Society conserve species big and small.

Book rental membership

If your valentine isn't ready to take the plunge into e-books, consider a gift subscription to an online book rental site, like BookSwim.com. This Netflix-type service lets them have three or more books out at a time — New York Times bestsellers, cookbooks and even children's books. When they’re finished and return one, the next one on their list will be automatically sent out. And shipping is pre-paid as part of the subscription. Subscriptions start at $24 per month for three books out at a time.
