If you've been buying ice cream from the freezer aisle and wishing you could control what goes into them, the Ninja Creami does exactly that. Pick ingredients for your base, freeze them up, and let the Creami do the rest. You get real-deal frozen deliciousness, made just the way you want.

Right now, for Prime Big Deal Days, it's on sale at a solid discount. The standard 7-in-1 model, the NC301, is down to $179.99, from its $229.99 list price, which works out to 22% off.

What the Ninja Creami does

The Creami works differently from an old-fashioned churn. You mix up a base, freeze it in one of the included 16-ounce pints for 24 hours, and then the machine's dual-drive motors press a paddle down through the frozen block and shave it into something smooth, which is what Ninja calls its Creamify technology. You'll get seven one-touch programs to pick from: ice cream, lite ice cream, gelato, sorbet, milkshake, smoothie bowl, and a mix-in cycle for adding chunks after the first spin.

Each program will run for somewhere between one and two and a half minutes according to Ninja. As such, the overnight freeze is the only real waiting you'll have to do. The 24-hour freeze does mean you'll need to plan a day ahead, so keeping a second batch in the freezer while you eat the first one is probably the way to use it.

Thankfully, you get two pints with storage lids in the box, along with the outer bowl, the paddle, and a 30-recipe guide. The pints, lids, and paddle are dishwasher safe. Since you'll be making the base yourself, you can decide how much sugar goes in, throw in some protein powder, or make a dairy-free version. This is the main reason to own one of these, in my opinion, because it's such an easy way to make your protein intake a bit more exciting than it usually is.

The machine itself is an 800-watt unit that takes up about 17.4 by 8.6 inches of counter space and stands 18.4 inches tall, and Ninja offers a one-year limited warranty on it.
