Make Extra Cash By Renting Out Your Car With FlightCar

by Fox Van Allen on August 05, 2013

FlightcarI love to travel, but there's nothing I like less about it than that trip to the airport. You either need to guilt a family member into waking up early, pay for a taxi or drop huge amounts of dough on long-term parking in an unsecured airport lot.

Apparently, the people behind FlightCar share my frustration. The company has created a business model that takes the hassle and expense out of airport trips. Instead of making you pay to store your car, FlightCar will pay you to keep it on its lot and rent it out to fellow airport travelers. Each time your car is rented, you make money. The company will even pick you up and drop you off at the airport in a private vehicle for free.

Naturally, FlightCar has ironed out the largest wrinkles in the process. Prospective renters' driving histories are checked, and your car will be insured for $1,000,000. The company will even wash and clean your car for you, so you don't need to worry about coming home to a stranger's mess. Mileage is limited to 90 per day, and you'll be compensated $0.35 per mile should someone go over their allowance.

If you can bear to part with your vehicle for a longer stretch of time, FlightCar also offers a monthly rental option with a guaranteed payout. Should you need your extra car for any reason, it (or a substitute) is available for your own personal use 4 days per month.

The amount of money you make through FlightCar depends on your vehicle type. Cars from 2008 or older only earn $10 per rental; older luxury vehicles earn $10 per day. Newer cars will earn you $10 per day, or $20 per day for luxury vehicles. Long-term renters earn a flat rate between $150 and $400 per month guaranteed.
