Spotify Desktop App to Get a 'Lyrics' Button

by Fox Van Allen on February 27, 2015

Spotify Lyrics buttonStreaming music service Spotify is about to get a really cool feature: line-by-line song lyrics. Yesterday, the company announced it would be integrating the Musixmatch lyrics service into the core Spotify desktop app, allowing you to access the lyrics of any most song with the press of a button. Never again will you need to scratch your head wondering what the heck the Bare Naked Ladies were saying in “One Week.”

Musixmatch is one of the most popular Spotify apps currently available. The streaming service has decided to move away from the app-based format, but apparently, the feature was too popular and useful to lose moving forward. Indeed, Musixmatch is great for those of us who want to pay attention to the message of an epic ballad – and for those times you just want to sing along karaoke style.

A couple other changes are in store for the Spotify desktop app in this update, as well. It’s improving its friend feed and introducing new daily viral charts, helping you track the most shared songs on the service. Spotify will also now indicate which songs in its charts are new, complete with data on their day-to-day performance.

These features are not yet live in the Spotify app; the company expects them to “roll out gradually to all desktop users over the coming weeks.” To learn more about the Musixmatch lyrics feature and to see it in use, visit the official Spotify blog or check out the short video below.
