Google Voice Search Knows Who Your Mother Is

by Fox Van Allen on February 12, 2014

Android phone family connectionsGoogle has just added a cool new feature to its Android phone voice search: Your phone now recognizes which of your contacts related to you.

“You can skip scrolling through your contacts and just say to your Android phone ‘Ok Google, call Mom’ or ‘Ok Google, send a text to my wife,’” Google explained yesterday on its Google+ page. “Starting now, the Google search app on your Android phone will be able to pull up the right contact for you—and if you don’t have Mom saved as 'mom,' it’ll help you set that up quickly.”

Currently, the feature recognizes a wide range of family relationships including husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother, cousin, niece, aunt and uncle.

Google will also recognize your boyfriend or girlfriend. Just be sure to keep the information up to date. You wouldn’t want Google to connect you with your ex when you’re trying to make Valentines Day plans with your current beau.

The feature is currently available for users of Android phones.
