Yesterday, speaker company Sonos released the results of a 30,000 person study they conducted that delved into the ways playing music builds familial relationships. Households that listened to music the most spent three hours and thirteen minutes more time together than those who listened the least. And apparently, people in musical homes have 67 percent more sex (although determining exactly what that percent increase means is a bit murky).
That’s great news for anyone who uses Apple Music and has a Sonos speaker, because beginning today, Apple Music subscribers will be able to listen to their favorite tunes on a Sonos wireless speaker system. So now you don't have play your iTunes music from your Mac or PC — you can stream Apple Music from the Sonos app.
Sonos has made a name for itself with its Wi-fi connected speakers that stream your music from smartphones and computers. Many streaming music services have already paired with the company, including Pandora, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Prime Music and Google Play Music, so it was only a matter of time before the behemoth that is Apple finally crashed the party.
To connect your Apple Music account to a Sonos speaker, go to the Sonos app, then press “Add music services.” Find and select the Apple Music logo, log in and you’ll be able to listen to the over 30 million songs in their library. That means you can listen to the entirety of The Beatles’ catalog and just about any other song you could want, as well as the curated Beats 1 radio station and a new artist-curated Sonos radio station that’s also debuting today.
If you haven’t already tried Apple Music free for three months, the offer still stands. After that, the service costs $9.99 per month for single users and $14.99 per month for up to six family members. As for you Android users, you can get in on the Apple Music experience, too.
It’s not guaranteed that this new Apple Music/Sonos streaming option will improve your relationships, but hey, you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.
